To celebrate the arrival of House of Disco HQ’s newest member Kate here’s a gem she discovered last week in a set Mike Huckaby did at Phonica Records: a great edit of a Fela Kuti classic. Kuti took care of the vocals, rhythm and African vibes when he made the (17 minute long!) original back in 1975.. but Oslo-based Joystick Jay seemed to think it was unfinished, and effectively transformed it into something even more funky. He rearranged the structure, added some drums, percussion, bass and chords – et voila, a beautiful track that is pretty impossible to sit still to.
