Hawk Edits Guestmix

Reigning from the Netherlands is this weeks contributor ‘Hawk Edits’. Hawk has a very eclectic taste when it comes to choosing tracks to re-edit and tickle and has a tendency to look backwards into the deep past. I have featured a few of them since coming across his Soundcloud and it continues to be a good resource for quality plundering. He’s crafted an exclusive mix for us today that it rooted in the past. Its a testament to the party disco and boogie tunes of the past and is as banging as classic disco gets. Mixing Italo, boogie, unconventional song choices, kooky samples and old school effects its certainly a mix with some character. It starts as it means to go on, on the verge of jacking and never lets up. Do not play this before you’ve has your cereal and orange juice or you may skip breakfast altogether.

We also got the oppertunity to shed some light on just who Hawk is…well kinda

Where did the moniker ‘Hawk Edits’ come from?
Hawk is a anagram of my real name

How did you get into edits?
So many people call themselve dj’s, so I started out editing around 2002-2003 to
make my dj-sets more ‘personal’

You seem to have a penchant for old school funk, would you have preferred to have been alive when all this music was coming out?
Well, I wish I was born 10 years earlier. Then my vinyl collection would me more complete !

What do you do when not ‘Fixing’ old tracks?
I work as a manager for a big compagny.

Are you a vinyl junkie? What kind of collection do you have?
Yes, but not for 100%. If I could get 12″ versions or lp’s on cd, I’d rather buy the cd’s nowadays.
My collection ranges from everything, from soul & funk to House & Techno

What genre are you most obsessed with and why?
Disco, Italo, early House. The freshness and originality makes them outstanding.
It might sound strange, but early Jungle from the beginning of the 90s is outstanding also.

Have you ever had anything disastrous happen to you while playing?
Yes, beer over my cd’s ! I stopped immediatly.

What are your top 5 tracks at the moment in any genre?
No particular order:

* ‘You must create’ – Luke Howard (Faze Action remix)
* ‘Need you now’ – Cut Copy (Carl Craig remix)
* ‘Drop Out Sounds 1′ – Drop Out Orchestra
* ‘Lovin’ – Ryan Shaw (Pete Herbert remix)
* ‘Open Heart Surgery’ – Beth Ditto

What are we to expect from you in the rest of 2011?
More edits and my own productions. More dj-bookings.
The Netherlands is crap btw…
